Description

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure in dogs and cats. In cats it is used mainly to treat systemic hypertension and lessen the risk of heart failure. In dogs it is used mainly to treat hypertension.
It is also prescribed to treat cats suffering from diabetes, kidney disease, and hyperthyroidism, to help prevent damage to the kidneys and brain. It can be combined with ACE inhibitors and other beta-blockers.
Amlodipine allows the blood vessels to relax, providing overall better blood flow, by slowing down the rate at which calcium moves into the heart and blood vessel walls. This medication makes it easier for the heart to pump blood through the body, therefore lowering your pets blood pressure.
It takes a few hours for the effects of amlodipine to be noticed. The absorption of the drug is not affected by food, therefore it can be taken with or without a meal. Effective treatment can lessen the risk of damage to the brain, eyes, heart, and kidneys. If not treated, hypertension can lead to a stroke, blindness, detached retinas, and kidney failure.
Help treat your pets blood pressure and give them a healthier and improved quality of life with Amlodipine. All our medications are made in our state-of-the-art pharmacy lab in Arizona, USA.
